Geography

Geography is one of the most genuinely interdisciplinary subjects you can study, sitting at the intersection of the natural and social sciences and asking questions that range from the physical processes shaping the Earth's surface to the human forces driving migration, urbanisation, and economic inequality. It is a discipline that insists on understanding the connections between the environment and human society, and it is unusually well-placed to engage with the defining challenges of our time, including climate change, energy security, resource scarcity, and the politics of place.

At the University of East Anglia, this three-year, full-time programme takes you into an exploration of a dynamic and ever-changing world. You will engage with the physical geography of landscapes, climate, and ecosystems alongside the human geography of cities, economies, identities, and global flows of people and capital. UEA has particular strengths in climate and environmental science, and the degree benefits from the research culture of an institution that has been at the heart of global climate science for decades.

Fieldwork is an important part of geographical education, and the programme provides opportunities to engage with real places and real data in ways that complement classroom learning.

Geography graduates are recognised for their versatility and analytical breadth. Careers in environmental consultancy, urban planning, international development, GIS and spatial analysis, sustainability, public policy, research, education, and the charity sector are all common destinations. The combination of quantitative and qualitative skills the degree develops is valued across many industries, including finance, technology, and the public sector.

Many graduates also continue to postgraduate study in geography, environmental science, urban planning, or related disciplines, building on the strong interdisciplinary foundation the undergraduate degree provides.
