Geography and business and management might seem to belong to different intellectual traditions, but the combination is genuinely coherent. Geography is concerned with the surface of the Earth as the site of human living and working, examining both physical landscapes and human geographies including migration, urbanisation, globalisation, and environmental change. Business and management asks how organisations create and sustain value within those landscapes and systems, including the supply chains that cross continents, the regulatory environments shaped by geography and politics, and the markets that are deeply influenced by spatial patterns of production and consumption.

Together, the two disciplines produce graduates who understand the world spatially and can also navigate the organisational realities of operating within it.

At Glasgow this four-year full-time programme includes a year abroad, giving you an international perspective that enriches both the geographical and business dimensions of your degree. The geography component develops a range of key skills including qualitative and statistical data analysis, independent research, and the ability to engage with complex and rapidly changing issues ranging from coastal management and environmental hazards to inequality, migration, and urban geography. The business and management element gives you a grounding in strategy, marketing, finance, operations, and the behavioural and ethical dimensions of organisational life.

The combination is dynamic and relevant, sitting at the centre of many of the most consequential issues in contemporary economics and society.

Graduates of this combination find careers across business, public policy, environmental management, international development, consultancy, and research. The spatial analytical skills developed through geography are increasingly valued in data-driven business environments, while the business knowledge provides a commercial grounding that opens corporate and entrepreneurial roles. Many graduates also continue to postgraduate study in geography, business, urban planning, or international development, or move into professional qualifications in management or spatial analysis.
