About this course

Geology investigates the Earth's materials, structures, and processes across timescales that stretch back billions of years. Environmental geoscience applies geological knowledge to the understanding and management of environmental challenges, from groundwater contamination and slope instability to mineral resource management and the geological dimensions of climate change. Together, they offer a science education that is simultaneously rooted in the deep history of the planet and directly relevant to the environmental problems that contemporary societies must navigate.

At the University of Keele, this three-year full-time degree with an environmental geoscience emphasis provides a strong foundation in geological science alongside specialist training in the environmental applications of the discipline. You will develop hands-on expertise through fieldwork and laboratory work, learning to read landscapes and rock sequences, to analyse soils and sediments, and to apply geochemical and geophysical methods to environmental questions. Industry work placement opportunities are integrated into the programme alongside a sandwich year and a year abroad, giving you substantial professional and international experience.
