Global philosophies and worldviews takes the study of fundamental questions about truth, value, ethics, and what it means to be human beyond the boundaries of any single cultural tradition. Western philosophy has provided many of the frameworks through which academic inquiry proceeds, but it represents one strand among many in humanity's sustained attempt to make sense of existence and obligation. This degree engages with African philosophy, Chinese ethical traditions, Hindu philosophy, Islamic political thought, Jewish existentialism, and Buddhist epistemology, among others, treating them as live intellectual resources rather than historical curiosities.

Psychology, paired with philosophy, brings the rigorous empirical methods of cognitive and social science to questions about mind, behaviour, motivation, identity, and wellbeing, grounding philosophical reflection in what we actually know about how human beings function.

At Liverpool Hope University, this four-year full-time programme includes a foundation year, providing a structured preparation for the main degree that builds the analytical and academic skills needed for success in both disciplines. Throughout the programme you will develop rigorous philosophical reasoning alongside empirical knowledge of psychology, encountering questions where the two disciplines genuinely intersect: What is consciousness and how does it relate to the brain? How do cultural worldviews shape perception and moral judgement?

What is the basis of human dignity and how do different traditions ground it? A sandwich year with work placement gives you professional experience embedded in the degree, while the option of a year abroad extends your cross-cultural learning into direct personal experience.

The combination of philosophical breadth, cross-cultural knowledge, and psychological understanding prepares graduates for a wide range of careers.
