About this course

Health sciences is a broad discipline concerned with understanding the scientific foundations of human health and the systems through which healthcare is delivered and evaluated. It covers the biological, physiological and psychological dimensions of health alongside the epidemiological, public health and policy dimensions, providing a wide lens through which to examine what health means, how it is maintained, how it fails and how it can be restored. The degree prepares you to think analytically about health and healthcare in a way that is useful both for further professional training and for a range of roles in the healthcare sector and beyond.

At the University of Nottingham, the four-year full-time programme includes a foundation year, which provides a thorough grounding in the scientific and academic foundations needed for degree-level health sciences study. This route is particularly suited to students who are committed to healthcare but do not yet have the entry profile for direct first-year admission. You will study the biological sciences underpinning health, including anatomy, physiology and pathology, alongside public health, research methods and the social dimensions of healthcare.
