History with Foundation Year

History is the discipline that examines how human societies have changed over time, drawing on written records, material culture, and the traces people leave behind. This four-year programme at the University of Hull includes a foundation year, which provides an extended introduction to the methods, sources, and ideas that underpin historical study before you move into the degree proper. The foundation year is particularly well suited to students who are returning to education, who studied different subjects at A-level, or who want more time to build confidence in academic writing and independent learning before tackling degree-level work. From there you will progress into the main programme, exploring periods and themes from medieval to modern, British to global, and developing the specialist knowledge and analytical depth that characterise history at degree level.

Throughout the programme you will engage with primary sources, debate historiographical arguments, and develop your own interpretive voice.
