History/Theology & Religious Studies

History and theology and religious studies is a four-year joint honours programme at the University of Glasgow that connects two disciplines with deep historical entanglement and genuine mutual illumination. History is the study of change and continuity in human societies through time, drawing on Glasgow's research expertise that ranges from medieval to modern history and encompasses Scottish, British, European, American, and global perspectives, including slavery studies, gender history, and the history of war, intelligence, and genocide. Theology and religious studies examines the beliefs, practices, texts, and institutions of the world's religious traditions, asking how faith systems have shaped human culture and how they continue to orient lives and communities in the modern world.

The programme includes a year abroad.

You will develop skills in historical analysis and source criticism alongside the interpretive and comparative methods that religious studies demands, learning to read both documentary evidence and religious texts with care and precision.
