About this course

Human biology and nutrition together address some of the most fundamental questions about the body: how it is built, how it functions, what it needs to remain healthy, and how diet and lifestyle interact with physiology over a lifetime. Human biology draws on anatomy, cell biology, genetics, physiology and biochemistry to explain how the body works, while nutrition science examines the relationship between food, metabolism and health at both the individual and population level. Combining these disciplines creates a powerful analytical toolkit for understanding human health and disease.

At Glasgow, this four-year programme includes a year abroad, offering you the chance to study at an international partner institution and gain exposure to research and teaching traditions in a different academic context. You will build a thorough grounding in the biological sciences, covering molecular and cell biology, physiology, genetics and pharmacology, alongside the nutritional science of macronutrients, micronutrients, dietary assessment and the epidemiology of diet-related disease. Laboratory and research methods are central to the programme, developing your ability to design experiments, analyse data and interpret findings critically.
