About this course

Industrial design is the discipline concerned with the form, function, and usability of the products and systems that populate everyday life, from consumer electronics and household goods to medical equipment and transport systems. It asks how objects can be made to work better, feel better in the hand, communicate their purpose more clearly, and have less harmful impact on the environments they inhabit. At Brunel University London, this four-year full-time integrated degree in Industrial Design is built around the conviction that real design learning happens through making and evaluating, and that creative thinkers who prefer project-based, hands-on work will thrive in this environment.

You will develop skills in design research, concept generation, computer-aided design, model-making, prototyping, and materials knowledge, alongside an understanding of manufacturing processes, ergonomics, and sustainability. The integrated structure of the degree means that creative and technical knowledge are developed together rather than in sequence, so your ability to realise ideas grows alongside your ability to generate them. Brunel's location in London gives you access to design studios, cultural institutions, and industry connections that enrich the learning environment, and the university has a long history of producing designers who work at the intersection of creativity and engineering.

The typical entry tariff is 120 UCAS points.

Industrial design graduates work as product designers, user experience designers, design researchers, and design managers in industries spanning consumer electronics, automotive, healthcare, packaging, and the built environment. Many graduates also work in design consultancies that serve clients across multiple sectors. Entrepreneurship is a common path for those who wish to develop their own product ideas.

Postgraduate study in design, design engineering, or related fields offers further specialisation, and Brunel's strong industry connections support graduates in establishing their professional careers.
