About this course

Information technology is concerned with how digital systems, networks, and software are designed, implemented, and used to support the functioning of organisations and everyday life. It is a field that encompasses everything from database management and network infrastructure to user experience design and cybersecurity, and practitioners who understand how IT systems work and how to make them work better are in demand across virtually every sector of the economy. As organisations of all kinds become more dependent on digital systems, the people who can design, manage, and improve those systems become more important.

At Middlesex University, this BSc programme develops your understanding of IT systems and digital technologies and how they support modern organisations, while building the practical skills to make a real impact in the field. You will study programming, systems analysis, database design, networking, web technologies, and the management and governance of IT within organisations. The programme is designed to be practically oriented, developing your technical competence alongside the problem-solving and communication abilities that IT professionals need in real roles.

The programme includes a foundation year, making it suitable for students who want to build a firmer grounding in technology before progressing to the main degree, and runs over three years in total. A sandwich year and work placement are also included, giving you direct professional experience in IT environments and the opportunity to develop your skills and networks in a working context.

Graduates from information technology degrees move into roles including systems analyst, IT project manager, business analyst, software developer, network engineer, database administrator, cybersecurity analyst, and IT consultant.
