About this course

International business management equips you to understand and operate within the complex, cross-cultural realities of global commerce. As globalisation has deepened the connections between national economies, the demand for business professionals who can navigate different markets, regulatory systems, cultures and commercial environments has grown substantially. This degree prepares you for that world, combining the core disciplines of management with a specific focus on the international dimensions of strategy, operations and leadership.

At the University of Derby, this part-time programme has been designed with the opportunities created by international business perspectives firmly in mind. The degree includes a foundation year, giving you a supported entry into higher education, and also incorporates a sandwich year, a year abroad and work placement opportunities, making it a programme with extensive practical and international experience built into its structure. You will study international trade, cross-cultural management, global marketing, international finance, entrepreneurship, supply chain management and business strategy, building a comprehensive toolkit for management in global contexts.

Derby's design of this programme reflects a recognition that the skills needed in international business cannot be learned purely from textbooks: exposure to different professional environments and international settings is part of what the degree provides. The part-time mode makes the degree accessible to those who are already working or who have other commitments alongside their studies.

Graduates go on to careers in international business development, global marketing, supply chain management, trade finance, international human resources, consultancy and management roles in multinational organisations. Further study in international business, global management, MBA programmes or specialist areas such as supply chain or international marketing is also a common route for those aiming at senior leadership positions.

The course has exceeded my expectations. The best part: the accounting and finance streams are taught by practitioners, not just academics. If I'm honest, would like to see more industry guest speakers in later years. On the city β€” local co…
