International Education

International education is a field concerned with education as it operates across national borders, exploring how educational systems differ around the world, what drives their design, and how international migration, development, multilateral policy and globalisation shape the opportunities and challenges that learners and educators face. It draws on the sociology and philosophy of education, comparative education research, development studies and policy analysis to ask why educational outcomes vary so dramatically between countries and communities, and what can be done about it.

At the University of Chichester, this three-year full-time programme takes you through the conceptual and practical dimensions of international education. You will study comparative educational systems, the role of international organisations in shaping education policy, the experiences of learners in different cultural and linguistic contexts, the challenges of educating children in conflict-affected or resource-constrained settings, and the educational implications of migration and displacement. The programme develops both your analytical capacity and your awareness of the practical and ethical dimensions of working in international educational settings.

Graduates work in international development organisations, NGOs, government departments, English language teaching, international schools, refugee and displaced population support services, education policy bodies and research institutions. The combination of educational understanding and international perspective is valued in any organisation that works across borders on questions of human development and learning. Many graduates also proceed to postgraduate study in international education, development studies, educational psychology, TESOL or education policy, often with a view to professional practice in international or multilateral organisations.
