About this course

International tourism and hospitality business management addresses two of the world's largest and most interconnected industries, bringing together the strategic and operational knowledge needed to lead organisations across hotels, resorts, tour operations, events, airlines and visitor attractions on a global scale. Tourism and hospitality are deeply experiential industries, where the quality of the customer journey, the management of staff and the commercial management of operations must all work together to deliver memorable and sustainable outcomes. A degree in this combined field prepares you to operate across both sectors with confidence.

Sheffield Hallam University's programme runs over three years full time and includes a foundation year within its structure, providing an accessible entry point for students who are developing their academic preparation before the full degree. The programme also incorporates a sandwich year with embedded work placement opportunities, giving you substantial industry experience before graduation. This layered structure means that by the time you complete the degree you will have both the theoretical grounding and the practical exposure that employers in international tourism and hospitality are looking for.

The typical entry tariff is around 104 UCAS points.

You will study business and management principles including finance, marketing, strategy and operations alongside specialist tourism and hospitality content covering destination management, visitor experience design, revenue management, food and beverage operations, event management and sustainable tourism practice. Sheffield Hallam has strong industry partnerships, and the programme develops your ability to apply business thinking to the specific challenges and opportunities of international tourism and hospitality environments.

Graduates work in a genuinely international set of careers, with opportunities in hotel and resort management, airline and cruise operations, destination management organisations, tour operating, corporate travel management, conference and events, and food service operations. Many graduates enter management development programmes with major hospitality groups or take up supervisory roles with international operators. The combination of business management skills and sector expertise is valued by employers who need graduates who can quickly become effective across multiple functions.

Postgraduate study in hospitality management, events, tourism development or business administration is a further option.
