International Tourism Management
International tourism management combines the study of one of the world's most dynamic and economically significant industries with the management skills needed to lead within it. Tourism is far more than leisure travel: it encompasses hospitality, heritage, cultural exchange, sustainable development and the economic lifelines of many communities and nations. Managing it well requires an understanding of global trends, consumer behaviour, destination development, environmental sustainability, digital technology and the complex stakeholder relationships that shape how places present themselves to the world.
At Leeds Beckett University you will explore the forces reshaping tourism, from changes in traveller behaviour and the growth of experiential and sustainable travel to the impact of technology, geopolitical shifts and the communities that host visitors. You will develop practical management skills in marketing, operations, finance and leadership, alongside an analytical understanding of how destinations and businesses adapt to a fast-changing global environment. The programme runs over three years full time and includes a sandwich year in industry, a year abroad and work placement opportunities, giving you an unusually rich combination of professional experience and international exposure that is directly relevant to a career in a global industry.
Graduates work in destination management organisations, tourism boards, hotels and resort companies, airlines, travel agencies, event management companies, cultural heritage bodies and international development organisations. Roles include tourism manager, destination development officer, events coordinator, marketing executive and sustainability consultant within the travel and hospitality sector. The combination of business management skills and international awareness that this degree develops is valued wherever organisations need to understand and respond to the global tourism landscape.
Postgraduate study in international tourism management, hospitality, sustainable tourism or business is a natural further route.
