The Internet of Things, commonly known as IoT, is the network of physical devices, vehicles, appliances, and other objects embedded with sensors, software, and connectivity that enables them to collect and exchange data. It encompasses smart home devices, connected health monitors, industrial automation systems, smart city infrastructure, agricultural sensors, and the growing universe of everyday objects that are becoming part of the digital world. IoT engineering combines embedded systems design, networking, data processing, and software development, and it is one of the fastest growing areas of technology, with billions of connected devices already in operation and many more expected in the coming decade.

At the University of Derby, this three-year full-time degree includes a foundation year for those who need to build their technical and academic foundations before entering the main programme, and a year abroad option for those who want to broaden their international perspective during their studies.
