Journalism is the practice of investigating, verifying, and reporting on matters of public interest, and its health is closely connected to the health of democratic society. A degree in journalism combines the development of practical craft skills with a serious engagement with the values, history, and social purpose of the profession, preparing you for a career in a field that is both indispensable and under considerable pressure.

At Leeds Beckett University, this three-year full-time programme is professionally accredited, which means that it meets the standards of the relevant industry bodies and gives your qualification recognised standing with employers. You will develop skills in news gathering, reporting, interviewing, writing for print and digital media, audio and video production, data journalism, and social media engagement. Media law and ethics are central to the curriculum, ensuring that you understand the legal framework within which journalists operate and the ethical responsibilities that come with the power to inform public opinion.

The programme includes a year abroad, which broadens your perspective on how journalism is practised internationally and how different media systems and regulatory traditions approach questions of press freedom and public accountability.

The typical entry tariff is 120 UCAS points. Graduates from journalism programmes go on to careers in online and print media, broadcast journalism, radio, television, podcasting, public relations, communications, and content strategy. Many work in local and regional news, national titles, specialist publications, or as freelancers.
