About this course

On our BA Language Studies, you become proficient in one or more of the modern languages taught at Essex; French, German, Italian, Spanish, and Mandarin Chinese BA Language Studies is a three-year degree, with opportunities to study abroad, taught at our Colchester campus. Language is fundamental to our thought, relationships, and societies. On this course, you'll develop proficiency in one or more modern languages while exploring how language shapes communication, culture, and global connections.

Our BA Language Studies combines practical language learning with the development of cultural and professional expertise. You can study French, German, Italian, Portuguese, or Spanish, while Mandarin Chinese is available up to Higher Intermediate level. Alongside your language studies, you'll take language expert modules that develop cultural awareness, communication skills, and professional knowledge valued by employers in an increasingly globalised world.
