Latin and Mathematics
Latin and Mathematics is a striking combination that brings together two disciplines each concerned with rigour, precision, and the pursuit of truth, but by entirely different means. At the University of St Andrews, this four-year full-time programme develops your Latin language skills and your ability to engage with literary and cultural analysis alongside rigorous mathematical training. The Latin strand takes you from the foundations of the language, or builds on prior knowledge if you already have it, through to the reading and analysis of major Latin texts in their historical and cultural contexts. The mathematics strand develops your understanding of analysis, algebra, statistics, and applied mathematics, building the theoretical depth and problem-solving capability that a serious mathematics education requires.
The programme includes a year abroad, giving you the opportunity to experience a different academic tradition in either or both subjects.
