About this course

A law degree for graduates is an accelerated route to a legal qualification for those who already hold an undergraduate degree in another subject and wish to change direction into law. This two-year programme compresses the core content of a standard LLB into a faster timeline that suits graduates who have already demonstrated their academic ability and who bring the maturity and study skills of someone who has completed a degree. The pace is demanding, but for graduates who are committed to a legal career it provides an efficient and credible pathway into the profession.

At Aberdeen Law School this accelerated LLB requires a good honours degree in any subject and offers a route into Scots law that is internationally recognised for its quality. Aberdeen Law School's standing reflects a long tradition of rigorous legal education, and the degree covers the core areas of Scots law, which draws on both the civil law and common law traditions and is distinct from English law in important respects. The programme is full time over two years.

You will engage with the full range of legal subjects including contract, delict, property law, public law, criminal law and private law, developing the analytical skills, legal reasoning and professional writing competence that are the hallmarks of a rigorous legal education. The accelerated format demands sustained and focused engagement, but for determined graduates it offers a direct route into a legal career without returning for a standard-length degree.

Graduates proceed to the Diploma in Professional Legal Practice before qualifying as Scottish solicitors, or pursue other career paths where the combination of an initial degree and a legal qualification opens particularly interesting options, including roles in compliance, financial regulation, corporate advisory work and international practice. Some graduates also enter the English and Welsh legal system following completion of additional requirements.

The course has exceeded my expectations. The best part: small-group tutorials really push your thinking. If I'm honest, the timetable has some awkward 9am / Friday afternoon slots. On the city β€” good transport links make it easy to visit ot…
