About this course

Law is a discipline that equips you to understand the rules that govern society and the institutions through which they are made and enforced. It develops your ability to read dense and complex documents with precision, to identify the relevant legal principles in a given situation, and to construct and evaluate arguments with the rigour that legal reasoning demands. These skills transfer well beyond legal practice itself, and law graduates are found in business, policy, journalism, finance, and many other professional fields.

Northeastern University London is a distinctive institutional setting for law study, bringing the approach of a research-led American university to a London campus. The three-year full-time degree covers the core areas of English law while offering an international and comparative perspective shaped by Northeastern's transatlantic character. You will study contract, tort, public law, criminal law, and the other foundations of an English law degree, alongside opportunities to engage with legal traditions and problems that go beyond a purely UK context.

London's position as a global legal centre, home to some of the world's leading law firms, international courts, and regulatory bodies, enriches the programme's connections to professional legal practice.

Graduates of this programme have the same range of career options available to them as law graduates from other English institutions. Many go on to complete the Legal Practice Course or Solicitors Qualifying Examination with a view to qualifying as solicitors, while others pursue the Bar Professional Training Course. The international character of Northeastern's network can open additional opportunities in transatlantic and cross-border legal practice.

Non-legal careers in financial services, consulting, public policy, compliance, and many other fields are equally open. Postgraduate study in law, international law, or a specialist legal area is a common next step.
