Law is the discipline that governs how societies organise themselves, how disputes are resolved, and how the rights and responsibilities of individuals, organisations, and states are defined and enforced. The undergraduate law degree is both a professional qualification and one of the most rigorous intellectual disciplines available, training you to analyse complex situations with precision, construct and evaluate arguments under conditions of uncertainty, and communicate findings with clarity and force. At Nottingham Trent University, you will become part of one of the largest and most innovative law schools in the UK, with a degree that is compliant with the requirements of both the Solicitors Regulation Authority and the Bar Standards Board for the purposes of professional qualification as a solicitor or barrister in England and Wales. You will study the foundational areas of English law, including contract, tort, criminal, constitutional, and property law, while also engaging with more specialised areas and developing your capacity for legal research, analysis, and argument. The programme includes a sandwich placement year and a year abroad, both of which significantly enrich your experience and employability, alongside embedded work placement opportunities.

The degree runs over three years full-time, with a typical entry tariff of 104 points.

Graduation from law provides the foundation for qualification as a solicitor or barrister through the relevant postgraduate professional training. Many graduates also move into careers in commerce, the civil service, financial services, human resources, policy, and management, where the analytical and communication skills developed by legal training are highly valued. Postgraduate study in law, including LLMs in specific areas of legal practice, is a common route for those who want to specialise or pursue academic careers.
