Law at Aberdeen gives you a genuinely distinctive experience, combining breadth of subject coverage with depth of scholarship in a programme that provides professional accreditation with both the Law Society of Scotland and the Faculty of Advocates. Scottish law has its own particular character, rooted in a mixed legal system that draws on both civilian and common law traditions and shaped by the constitutional arrangements of devolution, making Aberdeen a particularly rich environment for understanding law in its historical and comparative dimensions.

You will study the core areas of Scots and UK law, including contract, delict, criminal law, constitutional and administrative law, property and trusts, as well as a broad range of optional subjects. The programme offers the opportunity to combine your legal studies with a modern European language or an additional legal system, adding significant value for graduates who want to work in international or comparative law contexts. The degree runs over four years full time and includes a year abroad, giving you experience of legal study in a different jurisdiction and a comparative perspective that deepens your understanding of your own legal system.

Scotland-qualified law graduates are eligible to pursue training contracts towards admission as a solicitor with the Law Society of Scotland, or to pursue the Faculty of Advocates admission process for the Scottish bar. The degree also provides a strong foundation for careers in the broader UK legal profession, in international law, in commerce, finance, public administration and the civil service. Postgraduate study in law, international law or legal practice provides further routes for those seeking specialist expertise.
