Law is the discipline that defines how rights and obligations are created and enforced, how disputes are resolved, and how power is constrained and exercised through rules that apply to everyone. The study of law at degree level is one of the most rigorous intellectual training grounds available, requiring you to read precisely, argue clearly, and apply abstract principles to concrete factual situations with disciplined care. A qualifying law degree is the starting point for a career in the legal profession, though the skills it develops are recognised well beyond the law.

At the University of Lincoln, you will study law over three years full-time, covering the foundational areas of English law including contract, tort, criminal law, constitutional and administrative law, and equity. The programme is designed to develop both your doctrinal knowledge and your capacity for legal reasoning, and it includes a sandwich year, a year abroad, and work placement provision, giving you professional experience in legal or related settings before you graduate. The combination of a qualifying law degree and substantial practical experience is a significant advantage when competing for training contracts and other legal positions.

Graduates pursue careers as solicitors, barristers, paralegals, legal executives, and in-house lawyers following the appropriate professional training routes. Others work in compliance, regulation, human resources, public affairs, and government roles where legal knowledge is directly applicable. The research, analytical, and communication skills the degree develops also support careers in journalism, policy, consultancy, and management.

Many graduates also go on to postgraduate study in law or related disciplines.
