Law with a Foundation Year

At Swansea University, the LLB Law with a Foundation Year is a four-year programme that begins with a foundation year designed to build your academic confidence and introduce you to the foundations of legal thinking before you progress to the main degree. It is designed for students who have the intellectual capability and motivation to study law at university but whose prior qualifications may not meet the standard entry requirements. The foundation year is not a watered-down version of the degree but a genuine academic preparation that takes you seriously as a learner and gives you the foundations you need to succeed in an intellectually demanding discipline.

The main degree covers the core areas of English and Welsh law, including contract, tort, criminal law, public law, equity, and trusts, and is designed to be both intellectually rigorous and practically oriented. The typical entry tariff is 120 UCAS points.

Graduates pursue careers across the legal profession, including as solicitors and barristers following the appropriate professional training routes. Others work as paralegals, in-house lawyers, compliance officers, and in legal roles in the public sector. The research, analysis, and communication skills that law develops are also valued in politics, journalism, business, human resources, and public affairs.
