About this course

Law with business is a combination that equips you with the rigorous analytical training of a legal education alongside the commercial awareness and business knowledge that legal practice and many other careers increasingly require. Law develops your ability to read and interpret complex texts, construct arguments from evidence, and understand the rules and institutions through which disputes are resolved and behaviour is regulated. Business modules add the practical context of how organisations operate, how strategy is formed, how finance works, and what the commercial realities are that lawyers and other professionals must navigate.

At Nottingham Trent University, this three-year full-time programme combines core law subjects with business modules delivered by NTU's Business School, developing commercial awareness and other skills that employers highly value. A sandwich year is built in, giving you the opportunity to gain professional experience before your final year. A year abroad is also incorporated, and work placement is additionally available, giving you substantial international and professional experience alongside your academic training.

You will study the core qualifying law subjects alongside business strategy, management, marketing, and finance, developing dual expertise that is particularly valued in commercial law practice and in the wide range of business roles where legal understanding is an advantage. The ability to combine legal reasoning with commercial pragmatism is a combination that many employers are looking for.

Graduates are well prepared for careers in commercial law (including routes to qualification as solicitors or barristers through further professional training), in-house legal roles, compliance, corporate finance, management, consultancy, and a range of other fields where legal and business understanding intersect. Postgraduate study in law, business, or a related field is also an option.
