Law with business gives you the intellectual rigour of a law degree combined with a grounding in the commercial world in which most legal practice actually operates. At the University of Brighton this three-year full-time programme begins with a foundation year, giving you a secure academic footing before the degree proper starts. You will develop your understanding of core legal areas including contract, tort, public law, and criminal law, alongside business modules covering topics such as management, finance, and commercial strategy. The programme includes both a sandwich year and work placement activity, meaning you spend a significant period in a professional environment before you complete your studies.

This combination of academic preparation and practical experience is designed to make you career-ready from the moment you graduate. The foundation year entry route means the total duration allows you to build from first principles, which can be an advantage if your background before university was not law-focused.

Graduates are well positioned for a range of careers. Some pursue the Legal Practice Course or Bar Professional Training Course with a view to qualifying as a solicitor or barrister. Others move directly into commercial roles in legal operations, compliance, contract management, or paralegal work.

The business component opens additional paths in finance, consultancy, human resources, and general management. Postgraduate study in law, business, or a specialist field such as commercial law or employment law is also a natural progression.
