Liberal Arts

Liberal arts is one of the oldest traditions in higher education, rooted in the conviction that a broad, genuinely interdisciplinary education produces more capable, more adaptable, and more intellectually alive graduates than narrow specialisation alone. Rather than committing from the outset to a single discipline, a liberal arts degree invites you to range across humanities, social sciences, arts, and sometimes sciences, developing the ability to bring multiple perspectives to bear on complex questions and to move with confidence across disciplinary boundaries.

At Stirling you will study this four-year full-time programme, with a year abroad available as part of the degree. The liberal arts framework at Stirling allows you to encounter ideas from different traditions and to develop the breadth of knowledge and the intellectual flexibility that the programme is designed to produce. You will work across disciplines, building skills in critical analysis, research, writing, and argument that are grounded in real engagement with multiple fields rather than in any single one.

The year abroad adds an international dimension, exposing you to different educational and cultural environments and deepening your perspective on the questions that liberal arts education raises.
