Marine Biology with Oceanography

Marine Biology with Oceanography combines the study of living organisms in aquatic environments with the physical, chemical, and geological science of the ocean itself. The ocean covers more than 70 percent of the earth's surface, drives climate systems, supports billions of people through fisheries and coastal economies, and contains the largest and least-known ecosystems on the planet. Marine biologists study the organisms that live in these environments, from the microscopic phytoplankton that underpin ocean food webs to the whales that traverse ocean basins; oceanographers study the physical and chemical processes that shape the marine environment.

At the University of Liverpool, this three-year full-time programme includes a sandwich year with work placement opportunities and a year abroad, giving you direct experience of marine science in different geographical and institutional contexts. You will study marine ecology, fish biology, invertebrate biology, oceanographic processes, marine conservation, and the research methods, including diving, vessel-based survey, and remote sensing, that characterise the field.
