About this course

Materials science and engineering is the discipline that asks what everything is made of and how to make it better. From the alloys in aircraft engines and the ceramics in medical implants to the polymers in packaging and the semiconductors in electronic devices, materials scientists and engineers determine the properties, performance and limits of the substances that modern technology depends on. At the University of Leeds, this four-year full-time programme carries the designation Industrial, indicating that a sandwich placement year is built in, giving you extended professional experience in a real materials or engineering environment as part of your studies.

You will study the relationship between the structure of materials at the atomic and microstructural level and the mechanical, thermal, electrical and optical properties that result.
