About this course

Mathematics is a discipline that develops the capacity for precise, abstract reasoning about quantity, structure and change. It is simultaneously a pure intellectual endeavour and a practical toolkit, with applications that extend from physics and engineering to economics, data science and cryptography. For students who want time to build a strong foundation before tackling degree-level content, or who wish to extend their studies across a broader range of topics, an extended degree programme offers the depth and flexibility to do exactly that.

At Northumbria, this four-year programme provides you with thorough grounding in the core areas of mathematics, including calculus, linear algebra, real analysis, probability and statistics, numerical methods and discrete mathematics. The extended format gives you additional time to consolidate your understanding and explore the discipline in greater breadth. The programme includes a sandwich year and work placement opportunities, enabling you to apply your mathematical skills in a professional context before completing your studies.
