About this course

Mathematics is one of the most ancient and most powerful of the intellectual disciplines, providing the language in which the laws of nature are written and the tools through which the most complex problems in science, engineering, economics, and technology are analysed and solved. It encompasses both pure mathematics, concerned with the internal structure and beauty of mathematical ideas, and applied mathematics, which puts those ideas to work in modelling and solving problems in the real world. A programme with a foundation year makes this rigorous and demanding discipline accessible to students who need additional preparation before beginning degree-level study.

At Coventry University this four-year programme begins with a foundation year that builds the mathematical foundations and academic skills needed to succeed in the main degree. Once in the curriculum, you will develop your analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities across both pure and applied mathematics, engaging with topics from calculus and algebra through to statistical modelling, numerical methods, and the application of mathematics to real-world challenges and projects.
