About this course

Mechanical engineering is one of the broadest and most enduring of the engineering disciplines, concerned with how machines and mechanical systems are designed, analysed, manufactured, and maintained. It encompasses the study of forces and motion, thermodynamics and heat transfer, materials science, fluid dynamics, control systems, and manufacturing processes. Mechanical engineers design everything from jet engines and turbines to medical devices, automotive components, robotics, and energy systems, and their skills are fundamental to manufacturing, energy, aerospace, and many other industries.

At the University of Edinburgh, this four-year, full-time degree includes a year abroad, giving you the opportunity to study mechanical engineering in a different national academic and industrial context.
