At the University of the West of Scotland, this four-year full-time programme develops rigorous engineering fundamentals alongside applied and project-based work that prepares you for professional practice. You will study the core principles of solid mechanics, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, materials, design, and manufacturing, developing the analytical and computational skills that modern engineering demands. Graduates from mechanical engineering programmes work across aerospace, automotive, energy, manufacturing, offshore engineering, construction, and many other sectors, in roles including design engineer, systems engineer, manufacturing engineer, project engineer, and technical consultant. Many pursue chartered engineer status through the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. Further study at master's level in mechanical engineering, energy systems, advanced manufacturing, or related specialisms is available for those who wish to deepen their expertise or move into research.
