About this course

Mechatronics engineering sits at the convergence of mechanical engineering, electronics, computing, and control systems. It is the discipline that underlies the intelligent machines of modern industry, from robotic manufacturing systems and autonomous vehicles to medical devices and smart consumer products. A mechatronics engineer needs to understand how physical systems move and behave, how electronic systems sense and actuate, and how software and algorithms integrate these to produce a machine that does something useful and does it reliably.

The field is central to the advance of automation and robotics across virtually every industrial sector.

At the University of the West of England, Bristol, this three-year full-time programme includes a sandwich year and work placement experience, giving you sustained professional exposure alongside your academic studies. You will develop skills in mechanical design, electronics, embedded programming, control theory, and system integration, working in environments equipped with industrial-grade hardware from leading providers. The Digital Engineering Laboratory gives you access to cyber-physical systems, virtual and augmented reality, and artificial intelligence experiments that reflect the current frontier of industrial practice.
