About this course

Mechatronics is the engineering discipline that integrates mechanics, electronics, computer science, and control systems to design and build intelligent machines and systems. The term captures something that older boundaries between disciplines sometimes obscured: that the most powerful and sophisticated machines of our time, from industrial robots and autonomous vehicles to surgical devices and smart manufacturing cells, require engineers who can think across all of these domains simultaneously.

At the University of Lincoln, this industry-guided programme aims to produce skilled engineering professionals who can actively participate in and manage the design and development of complex mechanical systems. You will study mechanical engineering principles including statics, dynamics, and materials, alongside electronics, control theory, embedded systems, programming, and robotics. The integration of these fields is the intellectual core of the degree, and you will develop the ability to specify, model, build, test, and iterate on systems in which mechanical and electronic components interact.
