Media and communication with religion, theology and spirituality is a pairing that connects the study of how culture and ideas are communicated with a deep engagement with the religious and spiritual traditions that continue to shape the world's populations. Media and communication examines the technologies, institutions and practices through which stories are told, publics are formed, and meaning is made at scale. Religion, theology and spirituality brings a different but equally important lens, examining the belief systems, practices, communities and existential questions that have occupied human beings in every culture throughout history.

At Liverpool Hope University the programme benefits from the setting of a city with an exceptional religious and cultural diversity, including two great cathedrals, the oldest mosque in England and communities representing the full range of faiths. You will explore the wisdom, mysticism and practices of major world religions alongside contemporary spiritual identities that extend beyond traditional faith categories. The media strand gives you analytical tools for understanding how religion is represented, misrepresented and negotiated in contemporary media.

The programme runs over three years full time and includes a sandwich year in industry, a year abroad and work placement opportunities.

Graduates of this combination are well placed for careers in journalism, broadcasting and communications with a focus on religious and cultural affairs, interfaith dialogue, education, chaplaincy, the voluntary and charitable sector, public relations for faith-based organisations, and international development. The combination of media skills and theological literacy is increasingly valued in a world where religion remains one of the most significant forces shaping politics, conflict and culture. Postgraduate study in media, theology, religious studies or communications provides a natural further route.
