Media and communications is the study of how messages, content, and meaning are produced, distributed, and received through the technologies and institutions that shape public life. From the printing press to the internet, from broadcast television to social media, the media have always been central to how societies inform themselves, construct shared identities, and conduct public debate. A degree in this area develops your ability to analyse and critically evaluate those processes, and to understand the industries, platforms, and professional practices through which media content is made and distributed.

At the University of Chichester, this three-year full-time BA (Hons) programme examines the role, influence, and evolution of the media in a technologically reliant world. You will explore the development of instant information, the rise of digital platforms, the crisis of trust in mainstream media institutions, and the ways in which audiences engage with, produce, and contest media content. The programme develops your critical analytical skills alongside a practical understanding of how media industries operate, how content is produced across different formats and platforms, and how professional practice is shaped by commercial, regulatory, and ethical considerations.

You will engage with media theory, journalism, public relations, digital communication, and the social and political dimensions of contemporary media culture.
