About this course

Medicinal chemistry is the branch of chemistry concerned with the design, synthesis, and development of pharmaceutical drugs. It sits at the interface of chemistry and biology, asking how molecular structures can be optimised to interact with specific biological targets in ways that produce therapeutic effects. Medicinal chemists design candidate drug molecules, synthesise them in the laboratory, and work with pharmacologists and biologists to understand how those molecules behave in biological systems.
