About this course

Medicine is the most comprehensive and demanding of the professional healthcare degrees, providing the scientific knowledge, clinical skills, and professional values needed to diagnose and treat illness, prevent disease, and care for patients across the full range of conditions and settings that modern healthcare encompasses. Medical education integrates the foundational biomedical sciences with clinical training and direct patient contact, developing practitioners who can think rigorously about complex problems while exercising the communication, ethical reasoning, and interpersonal skills that effective patient care demands.

At Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine, this six-year, full-time programme trains the next generation of doctors in an environment that is simultaneously one of the world's leading research universities and a major centre for clinical medicine. You will study in close proximity to world-class research in biomedical science, clinical practice, and public health, engaging with the science of medicine at a level and depth that prepares you for a career in any specialty. The programme develops your understanding of the scientific foundations of clinical practice alongside the communication, professional, and ethical capabilities that the profession requires.

Graduation leads to full registration with the General Medical Council and the Foundation Programme that begins postgraduate medical training. From there, the full range of medical specialties is open to graduates: general practice, surgery, medicine, psychiatry, paediatrics, emergency medicine, anaesthetics, obstetrics and gynaecology, and research medicine are all accessible through the standard postgraduate training pathways. Medicine is a career of exceptional depth and variety, and the educational foundation provided by a programme of this calibre opens the highest levels of clinical, research, and academic practice.

Genuinely worthwhile
Coming here has changed how I think. The best part: anatomy teaching here is particularly strong β€” full dissection experience. If I'm honest, first-year classes can be quite large. On the city β€” local cost of living is manageable if you sha…

This is the perfect place to study this subject. The best part: the course strikes a good balance between theory and practical application. If I'm honest, would like to see more industry guest speakers in later years. On the city β€” local co…
