At the University of Chester this four-year programme develops your chosen language or languages to an advanced level across reading, writing, speaking and listening, building your skills progressively from your current starting point. You will engage with literature, film, journalism, cultural history and contemporary affairs in your target language, developing both linguistic proficiency and the critical and analytical skills that come from engaging seriously with complex material in a second tongue. The programme includes a year abroad as a core element of the four years, giving you sustained immersion in a country where your language is spoken.

A sandwich year placement is also incorporated, alongside further work placement activity, ensuring that you develop professional experience as well as academic achievement.
