Music production is the art and craft of bringing recorded music into existence, from the initial creative concept through to the finished sound that reaches a listener. It encompasses composition, arrangement, recording, mixing, sound design, and the use of technology as a creative instrument in its own right. At the University of the Arts London, this three-year programme gives you the skills and creative context to work as a music producer in a rapidly changing industry. You will develop your abilities with digital audio workstations, synthesis, sampling, mixing, and mastering, alongside a critical understanding of how production techniques have evolved and how they function within different musical traditions and commercial contexts. UAL's emphasis on practice-led learning means you will spend substantial time making work, developing your own sound and approach, and engaging with music production as a professional discipline rather than purely an academic one.

The programme includes a placement year, giving you direct experience in industry settings alongside your academic studies. This time in a professional environment allows you to apply and test the skills you have developed, build networks, and develop an understanding of how the music industry operates in practice. The placement year is integrated into the degree, which runs over four years in total.
