About this course

Music Technology and Composition sits at the intersection of musical creativity and technical practice. Where traditional composition training focuses on writing for acoustic instruments and voices, music technology expands the palette to include electronic sound design, digital audio workstations, synthesis, sampling and the full range of studio production techniques. At the University of Huddersfield, this full-time three-year BMus programme develops your skills in both acoustic and DAW-based music creation, as well as in production and performance. You will explore composing for specific instruments and ensembles alongside using the studio and computers as tools for sound manipulation and multimedia work, building a broad and technically versatile creative practice. The programme includes a sandwich placement year and work placement opportunities, giving you sustained professional experience in the industry before you graduate.

Graduates from Music Technology and Composition programmes work as composers, producers, sound designers, music technologists and recording engineers across the music, film, television, games and advertising industries.
