About this course

Music conservatoire training combines the highest levels of technical and artistic development with a practical understanding of the professional landscape. Whether your focus is performance, composition or jazz, a conservatoire degree asks you to develop your craft with intensity and rigour while also becoming a reflective, versatile musician who can engage with the industry on its own terms. Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, based in London, offers this environment in a setting deeply embedded in professional practice.

This five-year programme at Trinity Laban opens with an integrated foundation year that provides a thorough grounding in conservatoire study before you progress to the BMus degree proper. In the foundation year you will develop core musical skills, technique and musicianship in preparation for the demands of the full programme. Across the degree you will explore the breadth of your chosen specialism, whether that is composition, performance or jazz, while engaging with contemporary music-making and developing the creative and entrepreneurial skills needed to shape a sustainable career.

London's position as a major centre of music activity gives you access to concert halls, studios, ensembles and professional networks that few institutions can match.

Graduates from music conservatoires go on to careers as performers, composers, recording artists, session musicians, music producers and educators. Some move into arts management, cultural broadcasting or music journalism. The postgraduate provision at Trinity Laban and across the sector means that many students continue into advanced performance study, research or specialist teaching qualifications.

The integrated foundation year route is particularly well suited to students who have strong musical ability and potential but benefit from a more gradual transition into full conservatoire-level study.

Highly recommend
Coming here has changed how I think. The best part: the opportunity to do independent research in the final year is a highlight. If I'm honest, a few modules feel under-resourced compared to the flagship ones. On the city β€” the city is a br…

A great decision
I was sceptical before starting β€” now I'd recommend it to anyone. The best part: the opportunity to do independent research in the final year is a highlight. If I'm honest, the timetable has some awkward 9am / Friday afternoon slots. On the…
