Neuroscience

Neuroscience at King's College London is a modern and multidisciplinary programme that examines the nervous system across its full range of scales and contexts, from the molecular mechanisms within neurons to the psychological and clinical dimensions of how the brain shapes experience and behaviour. The discipline draws on cell and molecular biology, neuroanatomy, physiology, pharmacology, psychology, and philosophy, and the King's programme reflects that breadth while placing particular emphasis on developmental neuroscience, diseases and disorders of the nervous system, and the clinical and psychological aspects of brain function.

This three-year full-time BSc includes a sandwich placement year, a year abroad, and work placement opportunities, giving you substantial professional and international experience alongside the core academic content. The placement year takes you into a research or clinical setting where you apply neuroscientific knowledge and develop professional skills. The year abroad adds an international dimension, relevant in a field conducted through global collaboration and increasingly important for postgraduate research careers.

You will study the cellular and molecular basis of neural function, systems neuroscience, developmental neurobiology, neurological and psychiatric disorders, and the connections between neuroscience, psychology, and philosophy of mind.

King's position in London gives the programme particular advantages for clinical connections, and the university's association with major NHS trusts means you encounter clinical neuroscience in a directly relevant context.

You will develop laboratory skills, critical reading of scientific literature, data analysis, and the ability to communicate complex scientific findings clearly. Graduates from neuroscience programmes pursue careers in pharmaceutical research, clinical psychology, medicine, neurotechnology, science communication, and academic research. Many continue to postgraduate study in neuroscience, clinical psychology, or medicine, which opens pathways to practitioner and research careers.
