About this course

Adult nursing is the largest branch of the nursing profession, and registered adult nurses are the backbone of healthcare delivery across the NHS and independent sector. The role extends across an extraordinary range of settings: acute hospital wards, critical care, surgical units, outpatient departments, mental health liaison, community nursing, GP practices, and long-term condition management. Adult nurses work with patients from late adolescence through to old age, managing acute illness, supporting recovery, and providing sustained care to those living with chronic and complex conditions.

It is a profession that combines clinical precision with the communication, empathy and resilience needed to build effective therapeutic relationships.

At Brunel University London, this three-year full-time BSc is approved by the Nursing and Midwifery Council and leads to registration as an adult nurse. You will study the biological sciences that underpin clinical care, including anatomy, physiology and pharmacology, alongside evidence-based practice, clinical assessment, person-centred approaches, safeguarding, and the legal and ethical dimensions of professional nursing. A substantial component of the programme is delivered in practice placements across NHS and other healthcare settings, where you develop the hands-on skills, clinical judgment and professional behaviours that NMC registration demands.

Brunel's London location provides access to a wide range of placement organisations across one of the UK's most diverse healthcare environments.

NMC-registered adult nurses are in sustained demand across the healthcare system. Career development is highly varied, with clinical specialisation available in areas such as critical care, oncology, diabetes, elderly care, and emergency nursing. Community, district and practice nursing are well-established long-term pathways.

Management, education, research, and advanced clinical practice offer further progression, supported by postgraduate study and continued professional development.

Coming here has changed how I think. The best part: the opportunity to do independent research in the final year is a highlight. If I'm honest, first-year classes can be quite large. On the city β€” the city is a brilliant student city with p…

The programme genuinely lives up to its reputation. The best part: the integration between pre-clinical teaching and placements is well designed. If I'm honest, a few modules feel under-resourced compared to the flagship ones. On the city —…
