Dual field nursing in mental health and learning disabilities is an exceptionally demanding and rewarding qualification that prepares you to practise as a registered nurse in two distinct but deeply connected fields. Mental health nursing supports people experiencing conditions such as psychosis, severe depression, anxiety disorders, and personality disorders. Learning disability nursing focuses on supporting people with intellectual disabilities, helping them live well, access services, and navigate healthcare systems that do not always serve them adequately.

The overlap between the two fields is substantial: many people with learning disabilities also experience mental health conditions, and the combination of both qualifications gives you the skills to provide truly holistic care.

At Edge Hill University, this four-year full-time Master's-level programme develops your clinical knowledge, leadership skills, and professional values across both fields simultaneously. You will benefit from extensive practice opportunities in a range of settings, developing the clinical judgment and relational skills that these complex populations require.
