Nursing (Mental Health) [Pre-registration Nursing]
Mental health nursing is a profession that responds to some of the most complex and challenging experiences in human life, supporting people through conditions including depression, anxiety, psychosis, personality disorders, eating disorders, addiction and trauma. It requires clinical knowledge, therapeutic communication skills, ethical judgment, and the ability to build relationships with people who may be frightened, confused or resistant to help. The pre-registration nursing degree is the qualification that leads to registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council, enabling you to practise as a mental health nurse.

NMC registration as a Mental Health Nurse opens careers in NHS inpatient and community services, crisis resolution teams, CAMHS, CAMHS inpatient settings, older adult services, forensic settings, substance misuse services, and the growing private and voluntary sector provision. The profession is in sustained national demand, and registration provides a qualification that is recognised across the UK and in many other countries. Many mental health nurses go on to develop specialist clinical expertise through postgraduate training in therapies such as CBT or dialectical behaviour therapy, or move into nurse prescribing, leadership, education, or research.
