At the University of York, this three-year full-time degree prepares you for professional registration as a mental health nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council. The programme has an innovative design that develops your clinical knowledge alongside the therapeutic and relational skills that are central to mental health nursing practice. A sandwich year and a year abroad option are incorporated into the degree, alongside a work placement, providing professional experience in mental health settings and, for those who choose the international option, exposure to how mental health nursing is practised in different cultural and healthcare contexts.

Mental health nursing graduates work in inpatient psychiatric units, community mental health teams, crisis resolution services, early intervention teams, eating disorder services, and forensic mental health settings.
