Pharmaceutical Science

You will explore the range of sciences that underpin pharmaceutical discovery and development, including medicinal chemistry, pharmacology, drug formulation, analytical science, and quality assurance. You will also develop an understanding of the global regulatory frameworks that govern drug development and approval, and of the commercial and entrepreneurial dimensions of the pharmaceutical sector, recognising the business potential of new drugs and medicines alongside their scientific complexity.
The programme includes a sandwich year and a work placement, giving you the opportunity to develop your skills in a professional pharmaceutical or scientific environment. This direct industry experience is valuable in a sector where the transition from academic science to professional practice requires familiarity with industrial workflows, quality standards, and regulatory compliance.
Graduates from pharmaceutical science degrees move into roles in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, including research and development, analytical chemistry, formulation science, clinical research, regulatory affairs, quality assurance, and medical writing.
