Philosophy and Politics

Philosophy and politics is a pairing with a long and distinguished intellectual history. Philosophy provides the conceptual tools to examine foundational questions about justice, rights, knowledge, and the good life, while politics applies those tools to the real world of power, institutions, conflict, and governance. Studied together, the two disciplines push you to think more rigorously than either alone would allow: philosophy sharpens your capacity to test arguments, and politics grounds those arguments in the messy realities of how societies actually organise themselves.

At the University of Warwick this three-year full-time programme is designed for students who want to engage with big questions and also to develop the analytical skills needed to address them with clarity and precision. You will study major figures and traditions in political philosophy alongside contemporary political theory, and you will engage with the empirical study of political institutions, comparative government, and international relations. The course includes a sandwich placement year, a year abroad, and a work placement component, giving you structured opportunities to develop professional experience alongside your academic study, as well as the chance to encounter different intellectual and political traditions in an international setting.
